What is ABA Therapy

Applied Behavior Analysis is the most scientifically validated treatment for autism. Decades of research in peer-reviewed journals has shown that individuals with autism can make improvements in a variety of important areas with ABA therapy. This has led to endorsements by the U.S. Surgeon General as well as many state and local agencies. No other treatment modality for autism has this amount of scientific support.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) involves the application of principles of behavior to bring about meaningful changes in behavior. In the field of autism, ABA therapy can be comprehensive or focused depending on the intensity and specificity of treatment. All ABA therapy services offered by the Diagnostic and OutreachCenter are developed and supervised by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), many of whom hold additional certifications and licenses.

The treatment program is often delivered by a team consisting of ABA aides, BCBAs and the family where appropriate. ABA therapy is delivered in the “location of need” which may include the home, the community or in a specialized treatment location.
