Speech Language Assessments

The Diagnostic and OutreachCenter offers speech and language assessments for individuals with an autism spectrum disorder and for individuals suspected of having an autism spectrum disorder. Speech and Language evaluations and assessments are conducted with individuals with autism of all ages to identify underlying problems in speech production and overall language acquistion.

The assessment of speech and language difficulties in individuals with autism spectrum disorders is challenging because standardized evaluation instruments are often not appropriate simply because they were not created to address the complex nature of autism. As a result Eden II Programs has developed several informal assessments during our decades of work with people with autism. These informal assessments give greater insight into the issues that underlie the speech and language difficulties and provide a clear basis for making treatment decisions.

All speech language assessments result in a formal assessment report that provides detailed treatment recommendations. Additionally, the Diagnostic and OutreachCenter will assist families in initiating recommended treatments as needed.
